The science behind MOVE

Clear about the foundations. Honest about the limits.

MOVE is an evidence-informed framework. The branded MOVE protocol has not been clinically validated, and research on its ingredients does not prove that this particular combination will produce a specific outcome.

Movement and an outdoor setting

The World Health Organization describes mental-health and wellbeing benefits associated with regular physical activity. This supports considering movement as part of a broader care plan, not replacing individualized treatment. WHO: Physical activity.

A scoping review of golf and health found that golf can provide moderate-intensity activity, while identifying gaps in golf-specific mental-health evidence. It did not study or validate Crossroad MOVE. Murray and colleagues: The relationships between golf and health.

For MOVE, the outdoor setting offers opportunities to notice reactions, pause, and connect a conversation with action. This is the program’s clinical rationale, not a claim that being outdoors guarantees a therapeutic benefit.

Approaches informing the framework

Acceptance and commitment therapy

Explore values, make room for difficult internal experiences, and practice action connected to what matters. ACT overview.

Motivational interviewing

Explore ambivalence and a person’s own reasons for change through collaborative conversation. MOVE uses this as an informing approach, not as evidence that the full program has been tested.

Behavioral activation

Translate priorities into manageable activities and examine the relationship between daily actions and experience.

Mindfulness

Practice noticing thoughts, feelings, and the present moment. The approach and pace are adapted to the person.

Measurement-based care

Use relevant measures alongside conversation to review whether care is helping and what should change.

Psychotherapy involves different approaches, and fit and treatment goals matter. Discuss methods, expected benefits, and progress with your clinician. NIMH: Psychotherapies.

What we do not claim

We do not claim a MOVE-specific success rate, guaranteed improvement within 30 days, or that golf is a substitute for mental-health care. The framework and 90-day rhythm support individualized work and regular review.
